I recently learned how to recycle candle wax thanks to a pandemic’s worth of time to sit and notice
every. single. thing. in my NYC apartment.
There it … be. The wick life was kaput, but the wax life? Enough for at least another eight hour burn. So, I went to the closest thing to a wise elder I have - youtube. Dug around, and found a couple channels that gave me the training wheels I needed. This is the part where I feel conditioned to offer links to these channels.
1. I do not remember and
2. I believe it is important you dig and find what works for you and
3. Below, pictures from the process. I invite you to have a look/see.
You look/see’d.
See?
It’s pretty simple.
Wait, Jenna. No it isn’t. You’re not giving me any instructions how to ACTUALLY do this.
EXxxACTLY, curious reader. If you want to do it, you will find a way.
{Hint: Heat and patience help.}
This small act of homemakery was immensely satisfying. Lighting the virgin wick felt like a communion with the Divine. Cue singing bowls. I fixated on the first tear drop flame witnessing a buoyant dance of chemistry and physics. Were psychedelics involved? No.
Life can be this way.
Simply, observe the light. Just don’t forget to turn yours on first.
